Bumdra Trek (7N/8D)

Description

Bumdrak Trek is one of the shortest duration treks in Bhutan with only one night campsite. Trekker will be blessed by visiting the two most revered Buddhist pilgrimage spot in Bhutan – Bumdra and Taktshang Monastery (Tiger Nest Temple). Besides, Trekkers will enjoy the scenic beauty and Himalayan Mountains ranges.

Bumdra means ‘Rock of One Hundred Thousand Foot Prints’. The legend tells us that a hundred thousand Dakinis (angels) descended here and left their footprints on the rock 800 years ago. Bumdra is about 3800m above sea level and the Taktshang Monastery is above 3100m above sea level.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at the Paro International Airport; you will be received by The Traveller Trails – Bhutan’s representative.

Drive to Thimphu. 65km appx - 1hr drive. While driving to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan, you will stop at Tamchhog Lhakhang for sightseeing.

 On reaching Thimphu, we will visit Memorial Chhorten, Motithang Mini-Zoo (National Animal of Bhutan -Takin) and the Nunnery or Drupthop Lhakhang.

Then stroll around the Thimphu town.  In the evening, we will visit Thimphu Trashi Chhoe Dzong.

Overnight Thimphu

Day 02. Thimphu - Punakha. 79km appx - 2 hrs drive.

While on transfer to Punakha, we will stop at Dochhula pass (3,150m). The pass is adorned with 108 small stupas and beautiful prayer flags hanging over the spectacular pass.

If it’s a clear day, you will have the opportunity to see Eastern Himalayan Mountain Ranges beautifully.

And, you will stop at Lobesa for a small hike to Chimmi Lhakhang- the temple of fertility, located at the hilltop of lovely Lobesa valley.

The hiking trails takes through the paddy fields and rural farm house. And, you will see the Phallus paintings on the walls of houses. The phallus-means an image or representation of an erect penis, typically symbolizing fertility. The Devine Mad Man – Drukpa Kuenly is the man behind this story.

Overnight Punakha

Day 03. Explore Punakha

Explore Punakha valley with visit to Punakha Dzong. The majestic Punakha Dzong is built at the confluence of the two major rivers Phochhu (Male River) and Mocchu (Female River). In addition to its structural beauty, Punakha Dzong is notable for containing the preserved remains of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel, the unifier of Bhutan and Rangjung Karsapani as well.
And, then visit to country’s longest suspension bridge hanging over Punakha valley.

After lunch, you will have a choice either to hike to Khamsum stupa – which is 1hr hike or opt for river rafting 

In the evening, visit to Anim Dratshang – Nuns Monastery at Wolakha

Overnight Punakha

Day 04. Punakha – Paro. 144km appx - 3 hrs drive.

Drive to Paro; while on reaching Paro, you will have the following visit

  • National Museum
  • Paro Dzong

Day 05. Bumdra Trek

At the early hours, drive to Sanga Choekhor Temple, where it will be our base camp. We will visit temple for blessing to have a fruitful trekking. From the base camp, the trek is about 2hrs. The trail is of through a shady, forested ridge, pristine environment with the view of Paro valley.

While on the trail, you will see Chhoe Tse Temple nestled on the mountainside. The trail offers commanding views of spectacular Paro district and the snowcapped Himalayas.

The camp for the night is placed below Bumdra Monastery.

Lunch at the Campsite. Later in the late afternoon visit to the Temple for mediation for the rest of the afternoon.

Day 06. Bumdra –Paro via Tiger Nest Temple

Start the trek to Paro via Tiger Nest Temple. The trail takes about two – hours to reach the Tiger Nest Temple. The route takes across the mountainside above the said temple before reaching the Zangtopelri – Heaven on Earth.

You will be visiting Tiger Nest Temple. Lunch at the view point.

The trail takes down the steep hill for about two-hour to reach the Tiger Nest Temple base, where The Traveller Trails – Bhutan representative will receive and transfer to Paro.

Overnight Paro

Day 07. Explore Paro valley

Drive to Chelela pass (3,810m) one of the highest passes in the country. The pass has a breathtaking view of snowcapped eastern Himalayan mountain ranges.

In the evening, visit to;

  • Drukgyel Dzong
  • Kyichhu Temple

Overnight Paro

Day 08. Paro - Departure

Transfer to the Paro International Airport to board flight to your onward destination.
